2010 Community Engagement Day

On June 29th, 2010 CREST.BD held its 3rd annual Community Engagement Day, “Through my eyes: The concept of recovery in people with bipolar disorder” which focused upon expanding our understanding of what recovery means to people living with BD and their family members. We are pleased to provide links to the day’s presentations.
Exploration of the Impact of Clinician-Guided Recovery Narratives in People with BDVancouver Coastal Health Family Therapist, Rosalind Irving, outlines a CREST.BD pilot study which will explore new ways of working with people with BD through recovery-oriented care that incorporates patient narratives and storytelling.
Bipolar Disorder and Recovery UBC Master’s student and CREST.BD research, Sara Lapsley, discusses her literature review of qualitative empirical studies which look at what recovery means to people living with BD.
Recovery and Bipolar Disorder: A lived experience perspective Actress and mental health educator, Victoria Maxwell, provides insights on the intersections between stigma and recovery, and discusses the possibility that addressing stigma can improve outcomes, wellness, and recovery and quality of life.
Clinical Staff & Consumers – Outcomes on Recovery & Wellness Vytas Velyvis, CREST.BD member and Director of Interprofessional Research at Ontario Shores, discusses various aspects of recovery including, the difference between clinical recovery and personal recovery, and the potential for recovery-focused care to have positive impacts on both staff and patients.
