Stigma Experiences in the Context of Living with Bipolar Disorder

Quality of Life and Recovery in People with Bipolar Disorder
On November 10th, 2011 CREST.BD team lead, Erin Michalak, visited The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences in Whitby, Ontario. Erin discussed the development and application of the Quality of Life Scale in Bipolar Disorder (QoL.BD), a disorder-specific scale that assesses physical health, mood, sleep, cognition, leisure, social, spirituality, finances, household, self-esteem, independence, identity, work and study. She explores how it can be used as a clinical tool for collaborative goal-setting between people living with bipolar disorder and their healthcare providers.

Recovery in people with bipolar disorder: What does it mean, and what does it matter?
During a December 2011 presentation for the Lionsgate Hospital Foundation CREST.BD team lead, Dr. Erin Michalak, discussed the team's ‘community-based participatory’ approach to research and described highlights on two studies undertaken by the team focusing on recovery in people with BD.

2010 Community Engagement Day
On June 29th, 2010 CREST.BD held its 3rd annual Community Consultation Day, "Through my eyes: The concept of recovery in people with bipolar disorder" which focused upon expanding our understanding of what recovery means to people living with BD and their family members. CREST.BD Public Engagement Night
On February 23 2011, CREST.BD hosted over 80 people at our BD community engagement evening at UBC Robson Square. The event featured short presentations by team members on topics ranging from mindfulness-based therapy to the use of recovery narratives in BD. We are pleased to provide access to both video and PowerPoint (PDF) versions of the evening’s presentations.

Employment and BD: We All Have a Contribution to Make - Sandra Hale
On April 4 2011, team member Sandra Hale presented her Master’s research on employment opportunities in BD to the UBC Faculty of Medicine – in under three minutes! Sandra received the "crowd pleaser" award for her informative and dynamic presentation.
