Samson Tse, PhD

Samson Tse After residing in New Zealand for twenty years, Samson returned to Hong Kong in late 2008 where he takes up the Associate Professorship at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences in The University of Hong Kong.

Prior to his return, he worked as Associate Professor, Director of Mental Health, Director of Centre for Asian Health Research and Evaluation in the School of Population Health, The University of Auckland. He was the Faculty’s Associate Dean (International, 2004-06) and played a significant role in the Centre for Gambling Studies.

Samson has successfully completed his Master’s degree training in psychology and received his Doctoral degree from the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. His focus was on people with BD and their experiences in returning to paid employment.

Samson is trained in occupational therapy and psychology. His research and teaching interests include 1) population mental health, 2) functional recovery for individuals with bipolar or mood disorder, 3) violence among immigrant families, 4) interventions in problem gambling.

His recent projects include review of effectiveness of consumers-led mental health services, depression among older people and use of strengths model for mood problems in recent Chinese migrants. Samson is an ‘associated health researcher’ (AHR) within the CREST.BD team.
