Joanna Jimenez is a dedicated psychiatrist who specializes in affective disorders. She has been working at the Affective Disorders Clinic of the National Institute of Psychiatry for the last six years. She previously served as a research assistant in the Pharmacogenetics Department at the same institute, and she played a significant role as a research manager for the collaborative project “NeuroMex” with the Broad Institute and the Stanley Center. She is nearing the completion of her PhD in Medical Science, driven by her heartfelt commitment to understanding and improving mental health. Her research passionately explores genetic factors related to chronobiology, treatment response, clinical characteristics, and psychiatric comorbidities in bipolar disorder. Additionally, she is working on developing a Polygenic Risk Score for bipolar disorder tailored to the Mexican ancestry population, with the hope of enhancing personalized care. She serves on the International Society for Bipolar Disorders as chair of the Suicide Prevention Task Force, and on the GAGE-BD (Global Aging and Geriatric Experiments in Bipolar Disorder) committee.
I enjoy spending time with my two cats and my husband; we all do our own things separately, though. I love reading sci/fi, playing board games and video games, and learning about many other subjects like technology or philosophy.
