MD, University of Toronto
Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct), McMaster University
Dr. Joanna Jarecki is a Psychiatrist, Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at McMaster University, and mental health advocate whose personal experience living with Bipolar I disorder has deeply shaped her work. Her journey led her to the study of Salutogenesis – a framework that emphasizes the factors that foster optimal health and wellbeing. By focusing on these elements alongside traditional psychiatric interventions, Dr. Jarecki moved beyond symptom management to cultivate wellness, resilience and meaning in her own life.
Inspired by the transformative impact of this integrative approach, she brings the same philosophy into her clinical practice. As a psychiatrist, she empowers individuals to discover their own path to health by combining medical management and psychotherapy with foundational factors that foster wellbeing, including sleep, nutrition, movement, community and faith. She emphasizes the integration of mind, body and spirit as essential to true healing.
As an advocate, Dr. Jarecki’s mission is to shift the narrative of bipolar disorder – from a story of limitation and lifelong struggle to one of recovery, resilience and possibility.
