Dr. Steven Barnes awarded UBC Killam Prize

We’re very proud to share that Dr. Steven Barnes, CREST.BD Deputy Lead, has been awarded a UBC Killam Teaching Prize. The Killam Prize is awarded annually to a UBC faculty member, at any level of instruction, who shows distinguished teaching. The award reflects excellence in teaching, something that Dr. Barnes has demonstrated with his energy and passion throughout his years at UBC.

Just one example of Dr. Barnes’ innovative teaching style is his stop-motion animations, produced with the help of CREST.BD Research Assistant Chandra Jade, that bring to life concepts that can be especially difficult to grasp, such as epigenetics and neurophysiology.

Dr. Barnes is consistently dedicated to his students – to creating open lines of communication, sharing his knowledge on what they want to learn, and mixing science with the arts.

Congratulations, Dr. Barnes!
