Friday March 10th Suicide Prevention Talk

Ahead of World Bipolar Day we would like to share an important talk, “Digital Health Tools for Suicide Prevention”, with Sandra Dawson, a local mental health advocate and writer and a member of our CREST.BD Community Advisory Group.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 29; people who live with bipolar disorder are at increased risk of suicide and self-harm compared to people in the general population. E-mental health is the use of the internet and apps to deliver mental health services and information. This growing field can provide access to crisis supports, as well as therapeutic tools, peer support, and self-help resources to manage mental health. Access to care has been identified as the issue of top concern to Canadians with mental illness and caregivers, and e-mental health can help alleviate this problem. In this talk, Sandra will outline the current state of e-mental health in BC, and share tangible sources of accessible help for suicide prevention and intervention.

Please join our team for Sandra’s public talk, “Digital Health Tools for Suicide Prevention” on Friday, March 10th at 8am at the HOpe Centre in North Vancouver (address and map at the link above). A copy of the talk will be shared later via Slideshare if you can’t make the event in person. We hope to see you there.
