Join us in congratulating CREST.BD member Victoria Maxwell, who was recently awarded the 2022 Mogens Schou Award for Public Service and Advocacy!
The award is granted annually by the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) and serves to recognize exceptional work in bipolar disorder in three categories: Research, Education and Teaching, and Public Service and Advocacy. This award is named in honour of Dr. Mogens Schou, a clinician and researcher, who first implemented lithium as a therapeutic treatment for bipolar disorder.
The ISBD is a non-for-profit society which fosters collaboration between educators, researchers and clinicians who work with individuals with bipolar disorder. This organization is dedicated to advancing treatment and improving the quality of life of patients with bipolar disorder through furthering bipolar disorder research, education, and awareness. The ISBD is the leading source in bipolar disorder research and clinical care and has over 500 members representing ~50 countries internationally.
Since being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, psychosis, and anxiety, Victoria Maxwell has become one of North America’s top speakers and educators on the lived experience of mental illness and recovery, dismantling stigma and returning to work after a psychiatric disorder.
Victoria was recently also awarded the National Difference Makers Award and named one of Canada’s top leaders in Mental Health by the National Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
